Angelyn Bartolomei

Professor of Education

Dr. Angelyn Balodimas-Bartolomei incorporates North Park values into her courses. “All of my classes focus on multiculturalism and developing empathy. Plus understanding and respect for all individuals,” says Dr. Balodimas-Bartolomei.

Dr. Balodimas-Bartolomei finds that students in her Sociology-linguistics class engage these values through a “Sociology-linguistic Phenomena of North Park” project. In groups, they discover the multiculturalism and diversity of the campus and neighborhood.

As coordinator of the School of Education’s ESL teaching endorsement program, Dr. Balodimas-Bartolomei has seen many of her students have careers in teaching English abroad or working with English as a Second Language (ESL) programs throughout Chicago. Undergraduate alumni also often stay in the School of Education to pursue graduate programs.

Preparing future ESL teachers is truly rewarding to Dr. Balodimas-Bartolomei. “There is nothing more rewarding, fulfilling, and satisfying for me as a professor than when I see my students expand on their ideas and soar on the knowledge and experience that they have acquired from class instruction,” says Dr. Balodimas-Bartolomei.

As a School of Education faculty member, Balodimas-Bartolomei exclaims, “We (School of Education) do make a difference for students. We strive to help students achieve their fullest potential and live lives of significance and service, both within the educational arena and outside of it.”
